Have you missed these tutorials? My apologies.
So I recently discovered Glass Etching on Pinterest. I found that you can use vinyl + my
silhouette to create stencils, apply etching cream, wash off – voila! It is literally that easy. I initially bought 5 wine glasses from
Goodwill (shh, don’t tell anyone!) to test.
The first test was a huge success!
Then, I did 4 for a wedding shower for Daniel’s cousin, and they were a
huge hit. If I were to purchase an
etched wine glass set, it’s $30+. I don’t
have that kind of dough, not in this economy.
Then the next project was Mother’s Day – there are vases at
the Dollar Store (yep, shhh! again) that I LOVE and use for so many decorating
projects. I thought it would be neat to
etch these vases for our moms and fill with beautiful flowers. And you guessed it, they were a big hit! Moms love crafts... when you are 5 or 25 :)
Here’s the step-by-step on glass etching…
 |
| Cut out shape using Silhouette |
 |
| Remove areas that will be the etching areas (to create a stencil) - lift off cutting mat with transfer paper |
 |
| Transfer stencil to glass object using transfer paper |
 |
| Remove transfer paper, make sure there are no "bubbles" around stencil where the etching creme could get in and mess it up |
 |
| This is the etching creme! About $10 for a small bottle, but totally worth it. Caution - this is acid! Be careful! |
 |
| Apply etching creme to stenciled area. I used a plastic knife so it can be easily thrown away |
 |
| Wait 2 minutes (the package says 1, but I think 2 is better) |
 |
| Wash off etching creme and remove vinyl |
 |
| Voila! |

| Isn't that pretty? |
