D.C Trip 2k11 - Round 2

Even though our Blacksburg trip was done on a whim, Daniel and I had already planned to go to DC to visit Susan and Sarah!  So [lucky for us] we got to spend two weekends with them!  We arrived late on Friday night, and spend the evening just catching up and playing cards.

Saturday: a college friend (and DSP brother), Courtney, and her boyfriend Dupont recently purchased their own townhome [woohoo! congrats!]. They had a housewarming this past weekend to celebrate such an awesome thing. Conveniently, there was a VT game on tv, so we warmed the house and cheered on the Hokies.  The game was pretty ugly, but we pulled out a win.  [I hope tomorrow's game vs. Arkansas State is much better.]  I also made a VT rag-wreath as a housewarming gift, and I think it looked lovely on her door :)  We went back to the apartment and watched Bridesmaids - LOVE that movie!

Sunday: Sunday was 9/11/11 - the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. [Everybody knows exactly where they were on 9/11.  I was in 9th grade in my English class.  We were hurried into the classroom after lunch and my teacher, Mrs. Donovan told us the news.  The whole reality of it never set in.  Heck, I didn't even know what the World Trade Center was.  Now, after 10 years of maturing and a close-to-home tragedy later, I have gotten closer to grasping what happened.  Life is too short, and I am so very thankful for those individuals whose lives were cut way too short.  Where were you??]  We got ready and headed to our first stop: the 9/11 Exhibit at the Smithsonian.  All I have to say is - wow - it was incredibly moving and very interesting.  The exhibit contained artifacts found at each scene of the attacks.  Anything from ordinary, everyday items such as a calculator, to personal items such as a doll.  We watched a video they had prepared, which was very well-done and emotional.  After the exhibit, we made our way to the National's game.  We don't go to many baseball games, so it was such a fun treat.  The National's played well [and even scored 3 homerun's in a row!] and we had a blast!  We left after the game to head back homeward - we made a quick stop by my parent's since they were finally home!  I hadn't seen my mom/barely talked to her in 2 weeks, so it was so nice to have them back.

What an amazing weekend - thanks Susan & Sarah!!  I am going to have to do a second blog post just for pictures :)
