Shrimp Boil

Back in August, Derek officially finished up with his Master's and my dad was promoted to a Vice President with his company.  I saw a recipe for a Shrimp Boil earlier in the summer and have really wanted to do it.  These celebrations seemed like a perfect opportunity!  We had SO much fun, it was so very easy, and I highly recommend it!  I picked up some hush puppies from our local seafood restaurant, which was a perfect touch.  Just spread out the newspaper and dig in!  No plates or utensils required :)

Shrimp Boil
4 quarts water (16 cups)
1 can beer
1/2 cup Old Bay seasoning
8 medium red potatoes, quartered
2 large onions, cut into wedges
2 lbs lean smoked sausage, cut into 2 inch pieces
8 ears of corn, halved (frozen works well)
4 lbs unpeeled jumbo shrimp

Bring water, beer, and Old Bay to a boil in a 12 qart stockpot.  Add potatoes and onions; cook 8 minutes.  Add sausage; cook 5 minutes.  Add corn; cook 7 minutes.  Stir in shrimp; cook 4 minutes or until shrimp turn pink.  Drain liquid and pour onto newspaper.  Enjoy!
